Akami - The New Game

The Game Setting

Akami is set on the distant planet of Akami that has undergone major life changes (see The History of Akami). There are three major continents that, thanks to how the meteor (again, see The History of Akami) burned in the atmosphere, eliminated most sentient life aside from the continent of Ladar. The continent is divided up into nine regions: Tamar, Gofamir, Agafir, Zeminur, Xivaler, Jiviner, Machatir, Quadidyr, and Ramoorir, each with their own particular climate.

Tamar is a humid rainforest, with large, dense vegetation just outside the canopy rain-border and little undergrowth farther in, home to the aguashe. Agafir is a hot, dry desert where the mafide live underground, sheltered from the heat. Xivaler is a large swamp that shelters the Jaxire people. Zeminur is a crossroads region between Tamar, Agafir, Xivaler to the south, and Jiviner and Quadidyr towards the north. Jiviner is a crossroads region between Machatir and Ramoorir off to the north, Quadidyr to the west, and Gofamir and Zeminur to the south. Gofamir is a savannah sheltered within a mountain range with both wet and dry seasons, and is home to the hakare. Machatir is a mountain range that the Tarvande have tunneled into and created large complexes within. Ramoorir is a sheltered, cool valley within the Machatir mountain range that is home to the damete. Quadidyr is a frigid area to the north-west of the continent once home to the aguashe and now possessed by the rabid fury of the Sithis.

The Game Features

Akami will, eventually, feature many characteristics unique to itself. In physical combat, there will not be an autoattack button or anything similar. To ensure it's not just a mass of button mashing, a player will be able to use the various portions of their screen to design each of their attacks and blocks as though actually fighting. In addition, rather than having pre-built skills and specialties, a player will be allowed to design their own attacks and, through practice and development of attributes, be able to master and teach to others. Ranged combat will involve the entire necessities of true fighting: using a bow or crossbow will require pulling an arrow or bolt from your quiver or from the ground, nocking it off the hand or within the groove, drawing the bow or crossbow, aiming, and releasing. Throwing weapons will require withdrawing the weapon from wherever it's secreted away on your body, pulling back, and putting just the right amount of spin into it so that it strikes the opponent with the blade. Magical combat will require moving about and avoiding strikes from the opponent while placing together the various necessary elements to create a ball of ice or a bolt of fire. Pre-made plans for a spell will require as much if not more practice in order to cast quickly during combat.

Crafting, will allow you to use whatever you can find on a person or body of an animal to create whatever you want. You could gather minerals bare-handed before making a mining pick yourself from a branch and some molten metal. A rib from a dead beast could be sharpened and wrapped with hide from it to create a dagger. Anything can be mixed with anything to create what you want. All objects would have their own properties from size and strength, right down to elemental structure. For all you know, mixing together blood from one source could react with a small gas leak in a vein to turn violently explosive in an instant. From there you could make your own grenade or a specialized arrowhead for the creature that would release the gas immediately upon impact. Anything can be learned from enough research. The knowledge you earn through hard work can be shared through books to your friends and people you know.

All this and more can be done in Akami after it's been completed. In the meantime, if you have experience in programming, design, or just have an idea, and would like to donate your services or thoughts, contact me!
