Akami - The New Game

Before the Crash

Akami began much like any other planet: gods, science, aliens, take your pick. Life happened and grew until there were three major groups - the Dragons, the Lesser Dragons, and the Beasts.

The Dragons were large, top-of-the-food chain beings that had developed a sophisticated means of communication, known as The Ancient's Tongue. With it, they could talk to any creature, Dragon, Lesser Dragon, or Beast, and have them understand, though the Lesser Dragons and Beasts could not speak it themselves. Beyond that, the Dragons focused on war and their politics most of their life. They fought for resources, mates, political correctness, religion, anything at all. Their development of cities only furthered their advance towards war.

The Lesser Dragons, on the other hand, lived in caves and were much smaller than a Dragon. They had no true language beyond the primitive squawks and bawls of animals, and were both hunter and prey to Beasts and Dragons. Their life was solely focused on survival, and they did so fairly well.

The Beasts were the largest and most diverse group of all, but were often the lowest group on the food chain. Insects, frogs, dogs, lizards, goats, all animals were Beasts. They lived on open planes or enclosed caves, anywhere that they could find food, water, and shelter.

All of this would change on that day.

Impact

One day, the Dragons spotted a large meteor heading towards Akami. They didn't know what it was or where it would crash, but they knew it wouldn't survive the dense atmosphere that surrounded their planet, so they continued with their wars and life outdoors. On the day the meteor hit the atmosphere, everyone watched as it burned away into nothing but dust, then resumed their life. They didn't know that that meteor would be their death.

Soon, the Dragons were dying by the thousands from radiation poisoning. Their scientists realized that the meteor had been composed of radioactive elements that seeped down from above and destroyed them all. Within months, the Dragons had died off completely.

That is not to say that life did not go on, no. In fact, for the Lesser Dragons and Beasts, life was never better. They had evolved.

After the Meteor

Of the many species remaining on the planet, five of them evolved into sentience, while the rest became versions of Lesser Dragons, now called the Lesser Beasts. One species of insect, the light cricket, evolved into the aguashe, while a species of frog , the marked jumper, became the hakare. A species of goat, the spiral horn, became the damete, and a species of lizard, the sole horn, became the mafide. The four newest species all evolved that they could speak both The Ancient's Tongue and a new, more simplified language: Common, which became the natural dialect for all creatures on Akami.

But what of the Lesser Dragons? Hidden in their caves, they were protected from the radiation, but not enough to stop forced evolution. Through a genetic twist, they became made in part of rock, and became sentient much like the other of the five.

As the Five explored their surroundings, they discovered a trait imparted to them through a special radioactive element that, even in the lowest doses, gave them psionics. This was the start of Krom.

When the jaxire stepped, or more of warped, onto the scene, they appeared in the middle of a swamp. A couple of outcasts from the Five told them it was Xivaler, in exchange for food and shelter. With the last dying remnants of the jaxire technology, they constructed a colony before the residual EMP blast from the jump portal they came through broke the tehnology for good.
